There is much said and written about the Proverbs 31 woman. Some say that it is not relevant to our times as it is simply unattainable and that is not what God wanted for us as woman. Some say it is in direct contradiction to Ruth and who she was so they choose to ignore the passage altogether. Some say that it is not a real woman but rather a representation of the person or Woman Wisdom but do not go on to tell us how this Woman Wisdom is practically seen in our lives or how to interpret the various verses.

Proverbs 31, from beginning to end, is a profound passage of scripture that, once the revelation of what God is showing is received, will forever change one’s perspective on life and will elevate one’s thinking.

I definitely do believe that God’s ways are higher than ours and His thoughts higher than ours but I do not believe that He is so far removed that we cannot possibly hope to fathom what He is saying in His Word.

John 8:31-32So Jesus said to those Jews who had believed in Him, If you abide in My word [hold fast to My teachings and live in accordance with them], you are truly My disciples. And you will know the Truth, and the Truth will set you free.” (AMP)

If I read this scripture for what it is, I need to abide in the Word by holding fast to Jesus’s teachings and then live according to them. When I do this I will know the Truth and it will set me free. This simply means that I can know and understand God’s Word, I can hold fast to It and live according to It. If it was completely unfathomable why would Jesus give this command?

1 Corinthians 2:7-16

But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, the hidden wisdom which God ordained before the ages for our glory, which none of the rulers of this age knew; for had they known, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.

But as it is written:

“Eye has not seen, nor ear heard,

Nor have entered into the heart of man

The things which God has prepared for those who love Him.”

But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God. For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God. Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God.

These things we also speak, not in words which man’s wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual. But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. But he who is spiritual judges all things, yet he himself is rightly judged by no one. For “who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct Him?” But we have the mind of Christ.” (NKJV)

That seems like a lot to digest but let’s take it one step at a time.

“…we speak the wisdom of God…” Just that phrase lets me know that I can understand His Word, I can unravel complex scriptures, I can know Him more and deeper and have His wisdom.

Man cannot know the things God has planned for those who love Him but God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. His plans, His ways, His thoughts are revealed to us through the Holy Spirit. Through the Holy Spirit “we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God.” The Bible was freely given to us, so through the Holy Spirit we can know what scripture means. We can delve into the mysteries and discover the incredible depths of God.

“…which the Holy Spirit teaches…” I have the greatest teacher in the universe right with me twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week! The Holy Spirit is always on duty and ready to teach me. In a song by Don Francisco called Still Your Soul in Silence he sings about someone searching for answers in life. The two lines that struck me are:

So again you search the scriptures, and again you ask your friends
But last of all the One who knows the beginning from the end…

While researching I read a lot, many differing opinions and views and I was left with more questions than when I started. Then this song plays in my car and I suddenly remember I have the greatest teacher of all at my disposal. I should just ask Him.

“But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God…because they are spiritually discerned. … But we have the mind of Christ. I have the mind of Christ. The greatest mind in all creation is mine. What place does confusion, uncertainty and indecision have in the mind of Christ – none whatsoever. How much power is there in the mind of Christ?

Philippians 4:13 “I have strength for all things in Christ Who empowers me [I am ready for anything and equal to anything through Him Who infuses inner strength into me; I am self-sufficient in Christ’s sufficiency].” (AMP)

Close your eyes for a moment and think of one situation in your life where your own mind is in turmoil and confusion; or a situation that you feel is beyond your control. Now say aloud, “I have the mind of Christ.” Sincerely answer this question, “What can you do differently, within your own heart or practically, in this situation from what you are doing now?” Write it down and make a promise to yourself to make that change and then watch what God does.

So with the mind of Christ, the wisdom of God that He has freely given and the greatest teacher to ever be found, all working together in me I can go deep into scripture to uncover the pearls and gems God has hidden in His Word for us to find.

Be blessed woman of a sound mind!
